Dili, 18 March, 2025 – CARE and President Ramos Horta share a common commitment to early childhood education, children’s nutrition and women’s empowerment.

Since its first publication in 2001, CARE’s Lafaek educational magazines have been pivotal to ensuring children across Timor-Leste have access to essential information for their educational success. With the introduction of our community-focused magazine in 2010, our content has been providing vital information for families and communities on health and nutrition, parental involvement in children’s learning, gender equality, and promoting economic well-being for rural families.

From the start of his presidency in 2022, President Ramos Horta announced the fundamental missions for his term, which includes ensuring every child is healthy, well-nourished, learning, safe, and lives free from poverty.

Reflecting on the direct alignment of shared development priorities, we are honoured to engage with President Ramos Horta through the Jornalista Ki’ik platform this 18th of March. Engaging with two primary school student journalists, President Ramos Horta will be asked to share his experiences as the head of state, promoting men’s role in advancing gender equality and women’s leadership.

President Ramos Horta has been a steadfast supporter of many initiatives from the Lafaek project, including endorsing the five-year extension of the project’s operations from 2022 to 2027. CARE is appreciative of President Ramos Horta’s unwavering support for the Lafaek Magazines, children’s rights and gender equality.

The Lafaek project is supported by the generous funding from the Government of New Zealand, in partnership with the Ministry of Education in Timor-Leste.
